Local woman to discuss angels, spirit guides

Betty Jane Rapin says she's no expert on parallel universes, but she can tell you a thing or two about guardian angels.

Rapin, 78, of Penn Township will discuss her experiences with guardian angels during the Penn-Trafford Adult Education "Working With Angels and Spiritual Guides" class next Wednesday.
Though she's never studied the subject, Rapin says, she has enough personal experience under her belt to share with people.

"I don't consider myself an expert, but I have tips, tools and techniques that helped me get through life," Rapin says, she first learned about guardian angels when she was 4. As time went on, she began to believe in more spirits.

She credits a spiritual guide with saving her from drowning when she was 12 years old. Since then, she says, a series of different guides have accompanied her through life's journeys.
"If you put your hand on your heart, you can feel it. You can't see it, but you know it's there," she says. "It's the same with the air you're breathing."

Because she wasn't able to express herself as a child, Rapin says, she wants to teach people how to get in touch with their spiritual guides and to help them understand their purpose.

"I was labeled as having a wild imagination, so I couldn't learn about the subject until I got married when I was 18," she says.

"It's not important to see spiritual guides, just to believe that they exist."

Dream-interpretation class on tap

Betty Jane Rapin says she can help people make sense of their dreams, and she'll share with those who attend "Awaken to Dream Awareness" tips to do so.

The workshop, which is offered through the Penn-Trafford Area Recreation Commission, will be held on Wednesday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Trafford  Emergency Medical Services building on Brinton Avenue.

Rapin, 78, of Penn Township will discuss her experiences and research of dream interpretation. She became interested in studying dreams when she was 5 years old.

"I was having unusual dreams," she said. "I would dream about a relative or a friend in muddy water and then that person would get sick. It always happened, and I thought, 'Gee, my dreams are really telling me something.'"

Rapin began to study and research symbols that could appear in dreams and their meanings.
"It really depends on your religion and heritage," Rapin said. "Dreams are formatted to fit your consciousness.

"Life becomes a fun adventure when you can look at dreams and parallel them with your life."

She wrote and published "Dreams Designed by God for You," a 488-page hardcover book that she uses as a guide during the workshop.

Workshop attendees will learn techniques to recall dreams, pinpoint symbols and interpret their meaning through dream and visualization exercises.

"You learn how to get the message and apply it to every day life," Rapin said. "I feel dreams guide me to make decisions."

Lisa Black, PTARC assistant director, said she had attended Rapin's classes and thought it would be fun to incorporate them into the summer program.

"Betty's classes are very interactive," Black said. "She's a wonderful, personable speaker."

Rapin said she likes to learn from others, as well.

"I enjoy sharing my experiences with people and learning from their experiences, as well," she said.
